High potential and gifted education

The Sports Unit offers a diverse range of High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) opportunities across the 4 domains of potential. These system-level offerings may support schools to find high potential and/or provide talent development through enrichment, extension and extra-curricular opportunities.

Our programs align with the NSW Department of Education HPGE policy to ensure students receive equitable opportunities to develop their abilities and talents.

The Representative School Sport Pathway (RSSP)

The RSSP is more than competitions. It provides safe and inclusive enrichment opportunities for students of all backgrounds, including students with disability.

The RSSP nurtures student potential while also strengthening the capability of teachers and school leaders.

For more information, including finding your school’s Zone, upcoming events and livestreaming, visit the Representative School Sport Pathway (RSSP) page.

Students with disability

Students with disability can participate at various levels in school sport, from general participation to elite competition.

The participatory or provisional level does not require classification. Students wishing to compete at regional, state, national or international levels will need classification through the relevant sporting organisation.

For more information on HPGE opportunities for students with disability, including classification, upcoming events and livestreaming, visit the Disability and Inclusion page.

Sport and HPGE at school

The Sport and Physical Activity School Health Check is an evidence-informed self-assessment tool that helps schools reflect on, plan and improve how they deliver sport and physical activity across the whole school. It supports schools to meet the requirements of the Sport and Physical Activity Procedure while strengthening student learning, wellbeing, engagement and talent development.

For more information on delivering HPGE opportunities through a whole-school approach to sport and physical activity, visit the Health Check page.
