Risk management

Risk management plans ensure that clear processes are in place for the identification of hazards and assessment of risks. Risk management involves a thorough analysis of activity, equipment, environment, communication, participants and staff which enables risk factors to be identified, removed or controlled in the provision of duty of care.

The Risk management process should be followed for all school sport and physical activity.  Considerations include:

  1. Identify hazards
  2. Assess risk
  3. Eliminate or control risk
  4. Document the plan
  5. Communicate the plan
  6. Monitor and review

This process should be followed in conjunction with the Sport and physical activity procedure, Supporting tools and resources and the relevant section in Specific sport and physical activity guidelines.

NOTE: If no sport-specific conditions exist, teachers must obtain approval from the principal and comply with the Principal Endorsed Activity Procedures.
